What is evidence-based and why is it important?
Evidence-based programs are programs that have been shown to work through sound evaluation.
Evidence-based programs:
- provide input on programs that have worked in other places
- save valuable personnel time because you are not creating a program from scratch
- help identify evaluation procedures for creative new programs
- provide tools
- are often more cost effective
- helps to determine what works in a community
We know that evidence-based programs have had some effect on the community of original implementation and are therefore a good starting place.
From SLU’s Evidence-Based Public Health: A course in chronic disease prevention curriculum and OESI Using What Works: Adapting evidence-based programs to fit your needs curriculum
We will modify and tailor the curriculum to address the specific needs of local community organizations/agencies who will receive the training in the future.
BEACON will share with the larger BEACON network across the U.S. information on the work that we are doing together, how it is being carried out, and what our evaluation of the data tells us.
